Onsite ILO Chest X-Rays in Mackay and the Bowen Basin
ILOXAUS brings onsite ILO chest X-rays to Mackay and the Bowen Basin, by road or by air. Crews are imaged at the mine or yard, and every X-ray is classified to the ILO standard by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist.
Why Bowen Basin sites screen on site
The Bowen Basin is Queensland’s coal heartland, with large mines spread over long distances and FIFO and DIDO rosters. Screening at the mine or the contractor’s yard saves days of travel and keeps crews on swing.
Under Queensland’s Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme, chest X-rays are read to the ILO standard by an RSHQ-registered B Reader and then read a second time, with assessments at least every five years.

NIOSH-certified B Reader · ILO classification
ILO classification by a NIOSH-certified B Reader
An image on its own is not a health monitoring record. Every chest X-ray we take is read and classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist, so the result is consistent and defensible for your records, for regulators and for your workers. Single ILO reads and dual reads with adjudication are both available.

04
ILO-classified results
A NIOSH-certified B Reader classifies each X-ray and results are reported to you and your workers.
Health surveillance in the Bowen Basin
Coal mine workers are covered by the Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme, administered by Resources Safety and Health Queensland. Assessments are needed before starting work and at least every five years, arranged through an Appointed Medical Adviser.
The scheme sets its own radiology pathway, including RSHQ-registered B Readers and a second read. Talk to us and your Appointed Medical Adviser before booking so our imaging is arranged to suit your obligations. Mineral mine and quarry workers have separate respiratory health surveillance requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Do you come to our site, or do workers have to visit a clinic?
Our mobile unit comes to you. We set up at your mine or yard and image your crew on location, between tasks, so nobody is sent off site for half a day.
Who reads and classifies the X-rays?
Every X-ray is classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist. You can choose a single ILO read, or a dual read with adjudication for an added layer of certainty.
How long does screening take per worker?
A few minutes each. We screen the whole crew in one visit and work around your roster, including night shifts and shutdown windows.
Can your X-rays be used for coal scheme assessments?
Queensland’s Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme sets its own requirements for who reads chest imaging and how. Talk to us and to your Appointed Medical Adviser before booking, so the imaging is arranged to suit the scheme.
Can you fly in to a remote site?
Yes. Our Flight Ready unit travels by air with our team for remote and FIFO sites, and the road unit covers sites on the road network.
How do we get the results?
Once each X-ray has been classified we report back to you and your workers, so the result can go straight into your health monitoring records.
