Why Sydney worksites screen on site
Sydney’s metro and motorway tunnelling, major construction and stone fabrication workshops put a large workforce in contact with silica dust. Traffic and travel time make clinic visits expensive in lost hours, so screening the crew at the site compound or workshop is often the most practical option.
SafeWork NSW has carried out more than 100 inspections at Sydney metro tunnelling sites since January 2024, and NSW businesses doing high risk crystalline silica processing must list those workers on the Silica Worker Register.

ILO classification by a NIOSH-certified B Reader
An image on its own is not a health monitoring record. Every chest X-ray we take is read and classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist, so the result is consistent and defensible for your records, for regulators and for your workers. Single ILO reads and dual reads with adjudication are both available.

Health monitoring duties in Sydney
Most Sydney worksites fall under SafeWork NSW. Where a worker’s exposure to crystalline silica is a significant risk to their health, the business must provide health monitoring under a registered medical practitioner, and NSW’s Code of Practice for managing respirable crystalline silica sets out what that involves.
NSW businesses doing high risk crystalline silica processing must also register those workers on the Silica Worker Register. We supply the ILO-classified chest X-ray component on site. Confirm your obligations with SafeWork NSW or your occupational physician.
Frequently asked questions
Do you come to our site, or do workers have to visit a clinic?
Our mobile unit comes to you. We set up at your Sydney worksite and image your crew on location, between tasks, so nobody is sent off site for half a day.
Who reads and classifies the X-rays?
Every X-ray is classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist. You can choose a single ILO read, or a dual read with adjudication for an added layer of certainty.
How long does screening take per worker?
A few minutes each. We screen the whole crew in one visit and work around your roster, including night shifts and shutdown windows.
Which parts of Sydney do you cover?
All of Greater Sydney, from the CBD to Western Sydney, the Hills, the Northern Beaches and the Sutherland Shire. We also travel throughout regional NSW.
Can you screen tunnel crews on night shift?
Yes. We schedule around your roster, including night shift, swing changes and shutdown windows, so every crew is covered.

Once each X-ray has been classified we report back to you and your workers, so the result can go straight into your health monitoring records.
