Onsite ILO Chest X-Rays in Newcastle and the Hunter

ILOXAUS brings mobile ILO chest X-rays to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley. Crews are imaged on site and every X-ray is classified to the ILO standard by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist.

Why Hunter worksites screen on site

The Hunter is home to coal mining, quarrying, steel fabrication and heavy engineering, often on large sites a long way from town. Screening on site saves travel, keeps crews on shift and lets the whole workforce be imaged in one visit.

Since 1 January 2026, NSW coal mine workers have been covered by Coal Services Order 45, which requires new chest imaging to be reported to the ILO classification and independently reviewed by at least two medical practitioners.

NIOSH-certified B Reader · ILO classification

ILO classification by a NIOSH-certified B Reader

An image on its own is not a health monitoring record. Every chest X-ray we take is read and classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist, so the result is consistent and defensible for your records, for regulators and for your workers. Single ILO reads and dual reads with adjudication are both available.

Health monitoring duties in the Hunter

Coal mine workers are covered by Coal Services’ health surveillance scheme under Order 45. Other mines and quarries are regulated by the NSW Resources Regulator, and most other workplaces by SafeWork NSW.

Each framework sets its own requirements for chest imaging. We supply ILO-classified chest X-rays on site, as a single read or a dual read with adjudication. Check with Coal Services, the Resources Regulator or your occupational physician how our imaging fits your obligations.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come to our site, or do workers have to visit a clinic?

Our mobile unit comes to you. We set up at your Hunter worksite and image your crew on location, between tasks, so nobody is sent off site for half a day.

Who reads and classifies the X-rays?

Every X-ray is classified against the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses by a NIOSH-certified B Reader radiologist. You can choose a single ILO read, or a dual read with adjudication for an added layer of certainty.

How long does screening take per worker?

A few minutes each. We screen the whole crew in one visit and work around your roster, including night shifts and shutdown windows.

Can your X-rays be used for Order 45 assessments?

Order 45 sets specific requirements for how chest imaging is reported and reviewed. Talk to us and to Coal Services before booking, so the imaging is arranged to suit the scheme.

Which parts of the Hunter do you cover?

Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter, plus the Central Coast.

How do we get the results?

Once each X-ray has been classified we report back to you and your workers, so the result can go straight into your health monitoring records.
